FAQs about the coaching process
Can I count my ReciproCoach hours towards ICF certification?
Yes! In fact, they even count as 'paid' hours as you are receiving "compensation" for your coaching. Your compensation for the coaching you give, is receiving coaching from another coach.
What does fortnightly mean?
This is a question many Americans ask. A fortnight is two weeks, so fortnightly means every second week.
How do I know what kind of coach I'll get?
When you register for a ReciproCoach round, you fill in a form that asks you questions about what kind of coach you'd prefer to be matched with. This includes information like experience, training, expertise, gender, religion, location etc. Although we can't guarantee you'll get a coach that matches all your criteria, usually you'll get a coach fulfils some of your needs and most coaches find they get just the right coach at the just the right time.
Can I choose my own coach?
You can make requests for coaches before a round closes. While requests are not guaranteed, in most cases if you submit multiple requests, you'll usually get one of the coaches you prefer. Also, if you and a coach arrange to join a round together, specifically so that you can be matched together, you may stipulate this during registration as a "Special Request" in which case you'll definitely be matched with that coach.
Do I coach and get coached by the same person?
No. This would compromise coaching ethics. ReciproCoach rounds are set up so that you get matched with a coach AND a client. Your role as a coach is completely separate from your role as a client.
What if I know I don't want to be coached by a certain kind of coach?
If you don't want to be coached by a certain kind of coach, or for that matter, a particular coach, you can say so as a "special request" when you register.
How many coaches do you have?
Hundreds now, hopefully thousands soon. You can see the exact number of coaches we have in our community at the top of the news on the left of this screen.
Can I have a coach with more experience than me?
Yes. We run different rounds throughout the year. Every month there is a general round, which is open to anyone. Often times, people will be matched with a coach who has more coaching experience than them. Otherwise, we have regular rounds that are open to coaches with particular experience. This means that if you have say 500+ hours of experience, you'd join that round and all the coaches in that round would have the same amount or more experience than you.
Can I have a coach with the same religion as me?
Often, yes. Either there will happen to be a coach of that religion in the round you join, or you could search our community for a coach of that religion and ask them to join. Also, if you have a particular religion that a number of other coaches share, you could request a religion restricted round and we'll set up a round just for coaches who share the same religion.
I would love to have an international coach but am concerned about the cost of phonecalls.
If you have broadband/adsl then you can download skype and speak to your coach/client for free, if they also have skype. If they don't have skype, you can also make a call to their phone via skype, which costs about $2/hour for counties. In many cases, a one hour call to a first world country will cost less than the cost of a cup of coffee. If you can't get skype, you can buy a phone card from your local 7/11 and it costs about the same.
I want to join ReciproCoach, but I don't want a coach from another country.
When you join a round, you can stipulate in your preferences for a coach that you'd rather have a coach from your country/region. If you really want to be 100% sure that you get a coach from your country/region, then join a region restricted round, wherein all coaches are from the same or similar country/timezone. These happen regularly throughout the year.
