{"id":8632,"date":"2026-05-08T07:28:16","date_gmt":"2026-05-08T07:28:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/reciprocoach.com\/blog\/?p=8632"},"modified":"2026-05-09T22:45:24","modified_gmt":"2026-05-09T22:45:24","slug":"icf-mentor-coach-specialization-mcs-trying-to-make-sense-of-the-changes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/reciprocoach.com\/blog\/icf-mentor-coach-specialization-mcs-trying-to-make-sense-of-the-changes\/","title":{"rendered":"ICF Mentor Coach Specialization (MCS): Trying to Make Sense of the Changes?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"margin: 1em 0px;\">If you&#8217;ve been trying to make sense of the new <a href=\"https:\/\/coachingfederation.org\/resource\/introduction-to-icf-mentor-coach-specialization-mcs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ICF Mentor Coach Specialization (MCS)<\/a> changes lately, you are definitely not alone.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 1em 0px;\">Across the global coaching community right now, there is a great deal of discussion, confusion, clarification and interpretation happening as coaches, mentor coaches and training providers all try to understand what these changes mean in practice.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 1em 0px;\">The changes are substantial, the timelines are relatively short, and new information is still continuing to emerge.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 1em 0px;\"><strong>At the same time, we also believe these changes represent a very important and very positive step forward for the coaching profession.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 1em 0px;\">For many years, mentor coaching has varied enormously in quality, structure and developmental rigour across the industry. The new MCS framework is designed to increase consistency, professionalism, accountability and developmental quality in mentor coaching worldwide.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 1em 0px;\">In many ways, this is exactly the direction ReciproCoach has already been moving toward for more than a decade. Since 2016, ReciproCoach Mentor Coach Training and Group Mentor Development has focused heavily on:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"margin: 1em 0px; padding-left: 2em;\">\n<li style=\"margin: 0.25em 0;\">structured observation of coaching<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin: 0.25em 0;\">competency-based feedback<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin: 0.25em 0;\">developmental mentor coaching processes<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin: 0.25em 0;\">ongoing mentor coach education<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin: 0.25em 0;\">reflective practice and supervision<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin: 0.25em 0;\">alignment with evolving ICF standards, including the ICF Mentor Coaching Competencies and Minimum Skills Requirements<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"margin: 1em 0px;\">So while the current changes may feel overwhelming, hopefully there is also some reassurance in knowing that if you have been learning, mentoring, observing, reflecting and developing within the ReciproCoach community, you are already building strong foundations for the direction the profession is now moving.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 1em 0px;\">At ReciproCoach, we&#8217;ve been following the MCS updates very closely and working hard behind the scenes to:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"margin: 1em 0px; padding-left: 2em;\">\n<li style=\"margin: 0.25em 0;\">monitor new information and clarifications released by the ICF<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin: 0.25em 0;\">translate complex updates into practical guidance<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin: 0.25em 0;\">review and update our mentor coach training pathways<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin: 0.25em 0;\">develop accessible and affordable support and training options<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin: 0.25em 0;\">support existing mentor coaches in preparing for the new requirements without needing to start from scratch<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"color: #0d1975; font-size: 20px; letter-spacing: -1%; line-height: 20px;\"><strong>Navigating the MCS changes<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 1em 0px;\">To help the community navigate the changes, we&#8217;ve now created a detailed <a href=\"https:\/\/reciprocoach.com\/en\/mentor-coach-specialization-mcs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MCS updates<\/a> page summarising the latest information currently available, including:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"margin: 1em 0px; padding-left: 2em;\">\n<li style=\"margin: 0.25em 0;\">the key 2027 transition dates<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin: 0.25em 0;\">the new MCS pathways<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin: 0.25em 0;\">Credit for Prior Learning requirements<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin: 0.25em 0;\">group mentor coaching implications<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin: 0.25em 0;\">ICF evaluation training requirements<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin: 0.25em 0;\">enhanced mentor coaching and documentation changes<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin: 0.25em 0;\">what coaches and mentor coaches should be doing now<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"margin: 1em 0px;\"><a style=\"color: #2f80ed;\" href=\"https:\/\/reciprocoach.com\/en\/mentor-coach-specialization-mcs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><br \/>\n<strong>Read the full MCS update here.<\/strong><br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 1em 0px;\">We have also created a separate page specifically for coaches who have previously completed ReciproCoach Mentor Coach Training.
