Critical self-reflection – coaching competency, coaching standard, or both?

Many coaches celebrated the update of the ICF Core Competencies. Seen by some as long overdue, while by others as an unexpected surprise, the updated competencies bridge some gaps and inconsistencies that existed within the original set of competencies.

 

 

This issue of Coaching Research in Practice reviews one research study that may have contributed to the inclusion of “Embodies a Coaching Mindset” in the Updated ICF Core Competencies. It examines the value of critical self-reflection for coaches, clients and the coaching profession and provides a simple structure for practicing coaches to engage in critical self-reflection to enhance their competency of embodying a coaching mindset.
